Zen island fellowship is a non-profit religious group connected to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. ZIF
began in late 2002. In October of 2003, ZIF hosted its first retreat, led by Zen Master Dae Gak. ZIF has steadily matured as a group of Zen students committed to providing a Zen Buddhist setting in which to support each others spiritual practice. We meet weekly to practice together. We are affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
In Galveston and greatly appreciate being able to practice in such a supportive and welcoming environment.
Our guiding teacher is Zen Master Dae Gak who travels to Galveston from the furnace mountain Zen Retreat Center in Kentucky to lead 3-day retreats with us every four months. Many students have taken the 16 precepts with him.
All are welcome to join us for our weekly meditation sessions or our retreats. Sporadically, we host 'Introduction to Zen' or 'Introduction to Meditation' workshops. Please see our schedule for these opportunities. there is no fee to come and join us at our weekly sessions, however, donations are what allow us to support the UUF and sponsor activities (such as retreat scholarships).
